Points in sprint races

Post by Jes@GCRE » Mon Mar 27, 2017 3:32 pm

Hi,

Just after some clarification on how the "on the day" points are awarded in sprint races please.

Rules say that overall victory for the day in each class is to be awarded to the team with the lowest combined points score in that class.
So, does "combined score in the class" mean that classes are scored independently as if they are seperate races or is it actually that the class winner in, say, PCD is simply the PCD car which has scored the fewest PC1 points?

Which do we go with please?

Thanks,

Jes

Apologies but I've wrongly gone solely on PC points rather than the true PC2 class. Two class race wins versus one reverts the Class Event to Swebbelli.

A lack of formal spreadsheet found the back of an envelope method at fault.

Sorry

Jes is correct. "in that class" so points should be calculated per class

From rule book

2. Championship Points

2.1. Qualification for Championship Points

a) A team will qualify for championship points in each class in which it meets the class@

qualification criteria if it completes over 20 of the laps achieved by the overall winner of

that round. This minimum requirement is reduced proportionally in the case of teams

prevented from racing an entire event due to their class.

2.2. Points Scale

a) Championship points are awarded per round to the team championship number.

b) Championship points are awarded to each class as shown in Table 2.

c) Championship points are not transferable between classes.

d) Championship points are officially awarded after the 14 day provisional results period

following each event.

e) No PC0 points are awarded in a 24 hour race.

Last updated and effective from October 30th 2011

Sorry, not a question about championship points, just the one's to calculate the results on the day.

This actually came up at Solihull last year when we were presenting the trophies and the PCD trophy nearly went to the wrong team...

Definitely should be as Mark says above.

This is taken from the Wombwell race info

The overall result will be decided on a points system. Each of the 2 hour races is scored as 1 point for the win, 2 points for 2nd place, 3 for 3rd, etc. Overall victory for the day in each class will be awarded to the team with the lowest combined points score in that class.

In the event of a tie at the end of the day, the winner will be decided using the following criteria, applied in the order shown:

1. The team who participated in most races.
2. The team who beat the tying team(s) more times in their class.

3. The team with the highest overall race finish of the day.
If teams are still tied at this point Championship points with be shared.

I Think going forward for the sprint races, we need to have a spreadsheet or similar on the laptop, possibly even direct feed from the lapcount that adds it all up for race control. That way manual errors can be avoided and the pressure to add it up and issue a result is reduced.

Having done two sprints i sympathize with Mark, its not easy getting it all worked out and calling up the grid all in the 15 min between races. Then at the end the mad rush to work out the results, pack everything up etc etc.

No comment on this from either Swebbelli or Team 105 as yet...

Jacob? Did you receive my email?

Gary? Did you see my email to you both?
