I submitted the following proposal for the AGM agenda on August 17th:

""That race fees should increase across the board by £5 per car year on year for the next 3 seasons (so that by 2019 the cost for a 1 day race is £30 and for a weekend (or a 24 hour) it is £60) and that this revenue is put towards promotion of races, and recruitment of new teams including the provision, maintenance, and transport of loan cars at no cost to 1st time competitors.

This price still compares well with the cost of a cycle sportif (generally £30+ for a single rider) and it must be remembered that this is split between up to 4 drivers for most races and 6 drivers for a 24 hour.

We are always talking about how new teams can be encouraged into the sport with free cars for loan but there has never been any sort of strategy for achieving this.
Hopefully this can form the basis of one.""

By the way, we used to have a "thirdly" newsletter.

It was called "Pedal Car News" and I wrote it.

Then I was accused by a team manager (and member of the committee at the time) of "putting words in people's mouths again" which was when I stopped doing it and quit as secretary because it wasn't worth the hassle just for abuse from that particular individual.

So it was passed on to someone else.

Who might have done it once.

Several months late.

And then it wasn't done again.

Because it was decided it wasn't worth it.

My history's a little hazy but I am fairly sure that was the sequence of events.

If you are no longer competitions secretary would you be willing to put some words together again for a newsletter? (i assume the awkward manager isn't racing at present)

Agree with that race fee proposal either with a bfpcr fee on top or add it into the race fee (which may be simpler)

We need a decision on insurance ASAP because that will make a £500 difference to what we have in the pot and so obviously has an impact on what we need to charge.
I think it's important that we go into the AGM with a clear plan that all the committee are behind - Otherwise we could spend a lot of time achieving not a lot...

If he or she was then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Assuming the quote is acceptable, i'm happy to go with Jes's proposal for race fees.

We then need to decide do we keep a separate bfpcr fed fee or add it to race fees.

Adding it to race fees makes it much simpler for teams, the shop, and forms, its a single race fee, pay it, turn up and race. That would need to be £3 added on to cover it.

Alternatively if we want to keep it separate as a membership fee for simplicity lets make it a single fee whether you do one race or a whole season and i think £25 would be a good level as it would cover insurance and a lot of other admin type expenses.

The Treasurer's proposal is for an increase in Race Entry fees to solely pay for race costs that we haven't covered this year or last year for that matter. Any added revenue for publicity needs a separate proposal to further increase race fees.

I still stand by the principle that the membership should be seen to independently cover the cost of our "not for negotiation" PLI before any race entries are taken to cover race event outgoings. Mixing income for those two outgoings is a bad move in my opinion and dilutes the clarity placed against our priorities as an organising Committee.

Well in that case lets go with Jes's proposal for race fees but start it at £25/£50 this coming year and a fed fee of £25 to cover the (hopefully reduced) PLI and other admin expenses.

No quantity discounts.
No one off fed fee

GWAWR is Graham Sparey-Taylor and his Quattro who unfortunately had no particular desire to put a team in if it involved any sort of hassle but had already demanded twice the size of pit and various other special treatments if we wanted the special priviledge of him gracing the circuit at Shenington last year!

Sounds about right!! I don't think either Sam or Graham turned up at any BHPC events this year either...
