An option for early season perhaps is this track in Nottingham.

Andrew did a ride to is last weekend and sent the following:

A quality track three cars wide all the way around.
A hint of banking on the sweeping curves and enough gradient to interest the adults without stalling the small people.
Hairpins a bit tighter than Shenington so some technical ability needed.
Adjustability afforded by the cut throughs.
No more of a hike to the toilets than Shenington.
Good space for pit areas.

NG8 4PD is the post code of the school on the bottom right of that image.

Nice central location so probably no need for an overnight stay for most...

So, before we got massively side tracked, I think we were zeroing in on:

20th March: R1
23rd April: R2
25/26th June: Shenington.
24th July: R4
3rd / 4th Sept: Blackbushe
1st Oct: Curborough.

I think this would be a good calendar.

20th March: R1
23rd April: R2
25/26th June: Shenington.
24th July: R4
3rd / 4th Sept: Blackbushe
24th September: Curborough.

Sorry, we have had a response from Curborough and we cannot have 1st October 2016 as that is already booked.

BHPC have booked Curborough for the 25th again so there will be no need to rush around packing up after the race...
For those that haven't seen the track at Stourport, this was it on Sunday... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO3Yl24rKzw

Right, so...

Something Bristol-related has occured which may be in our favour as I have received the following from Rob Harris:

""When I met my Mayor's Office contact Stephen in July we pondered three options for the future to help create a pedal car race on a stronger footing by holding it in tandem with another event: one benefit I observed at New Milton was it being the weekend of the town festival.

The options:

1] incorporating the event, probably city-centre (site tbc) within the Harbourside Festival. Full-on publicity, much of the overheads taken up within overall festival. This year it was July 17-19, the very time of your Solihull meeting. Would you bring that meeting to Bristol for 2016?

2] attaching the event to Bristol being the finish for a stage of the 2016 Tour of Britain on Friday September 16th. A bit close to Curborough;

3] attaching the event to Skyride which is a venture with Sky and British Cycling. For 2016 Stephen quoted May/June, so for you this would come between Bruntingthorpe and Shenington, assuming your calendar is fairly similar one year to the next.""

My thoughts are, of the 3 that only the 1st may work for us but that it might work quite well.
Given that we don't have an organiser for round 4, and that the main benefits of Solihull is that it is completely free of charge and in public view, this could - if it works out - cover both of these in 1 go.

If they were to provide the venue, wellfare and publicity, could we supply lap counting and race control?

I think the criterial have to be:

1: Full BPCC rules, including class structure, and control over the actual "race on the road" part of it.
2: 4 hours track time minimum
3: The general health and safety - which I think he is all over anyway.
4: Sensible entry fee for BPCC teams - not like £50+ for the day or something silly!

He gets, say, 10 or a dozen BPCC cars to add to whatever local support he can generate, we get them added to our grid and we also get a fine publicity event thrown in for free.
We could use it to really plug Blackbushe as well of course.

Apollo are going to the Bristol 4-hour this October so after that we will know exactly what the score is with this organisation, good or bad...

What do we think?

Could work quite well.

However i did think there were concerns about having a race in May and getting cars ready in time for Shenington, but if we are ok with that what about.

Go with Option 3 but retain Solihull as well in its usual date and have an 8 round Championship. This assumes we can find a race organiser for Solihull. I'll kick off a discussion between ourselves and my leaders, Steph, Gareth, gary etc Saturday evening at Blackbushe because i'm sure with a few pointers its something Falcon could take on. No promises though.

Alternatively, go with option 1 and drop solihull in favour of Bristol, although no reason we couldn't go to Bristol in Jul 17-19 and run Solihull in May (if we have an organiser).

To me i think we'd fit in better with Skyride but who knows for sure

Falcon may be at Bristol in Oct, need to chat with leaders at weekend

I agree, as I said, - having gone through all theh options for the last few months about extra rounds and May fixtures - only the 1st option really works for us.

Having seen the pictures of the proposed "track" by the harbour last year I think that is a non-starter as a BPCC event - Two-way traffic on a narrow path with trees and street furniture would mean no overtaking on big stretches. Would be like Barnstaple in my opinion... Good fun and good publicity, but useless as a test of skill/speed so would be a real shame if it had any influence on championship positions.
If they can find a decent circuit and absolutely confirm it is going ahead more than a month before the event then it would be great... Otherwise I'd much rather have a championship round at an event we know will happen like Ringwood/New Milton.

Ringwood more likely.
I can't see that we would be able to have a sensible event at New Milton if that man with the air horn is still race controller!

:o) I can tell you are all blown away by this plan :o)

Best we can do is see what happens on October 11th and report back.

But can I clarify that the minimum requirement for a pedal car track is...

3m wide minium (4m generally)
400m minimum length
Space for a pit lane
Access to welfare facilities
No speed bumps, railway tracks or cobbles.

And "nice to have":

Power for lap counting
Running water
Soft-standing for pits.

Yep!
A BPCC race in a car park would be a backward step.
